Scout shares who you are with a company only when you both say yes. This page explains what we keep, who can see it, and how to take it back.
What we keep
- Your email address, which is how you sign in. There are no passwords.
- The profile you approve: name, headline, location, jobs, education, skills and links.
- What you want: roles, levels, locations, work setup, timing, dealbreakers and your search status.
- Your pay floor, stored separately from everything else.
- Companies you've blocked, your matches, your picks, and a log of activity on your account.
- Your public profile, if you publish it: your handle, what you're working on now and the work you've shipped, including any images you add. Images are resized in your browser before upload, which also strips location and camera details. Images you stop using are deleted within a day.
- Who you follow, both people and companies, and who follows you.
What we never keep
- Your LinkedIn export itself. We read only the profile, positions, skills and education files, and discard the upload.
- Anything else in that export, such as messages or connections. Those files are never opened.
Who sees what
- Companies, before a mutual yes: an anonymized brief with your roles, skills, degrees and how you meet the role's must-haves. No name, employers, schools, links, email or pay floor. We check every brief for identifying details before a company sees it.
- A company, after you both say yes: your name, email, links and location. Only that company.
- Companies you've blocked: never see your brief. Your current employer is blocked automatically, and a block covers the company's parent and sister companies too.
- Everyone, only if you publish your profile: your name, headline, location, work history, education, skills, shipped work and follower counts. It's off until you turn it on. Once published, anyone can see it, including people at companies you've blocked.
- Companies you follow: a follower count only, never who.
- Your pay floor: no one. It's only used to filter roles.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't show ads.
- We don't send your data to AI models.
- We don't let companies search for candidates. Search finds published profiles by name or headline only, never by skills or history, and nothing links a published profile to an anonymous brief.
Services we use
We use a hosting provider and a database provider to run Scout, and an email provider to send sign-in links and introductions. They process data only to provide those services to us.
Your controls
- Publish or unpublish your profile at any time from Edit profile.
- Download everything we keep about you as one file from Settings.
- Delete your account from Settings. It's immediate, and it removes your profile, shipped work, follows, preferences, pay floor, blocks, matches and activity.
- Otherwise, the record of what matching showed you and why is kept for four years, as hiring rules for automated tools ask, then deleted.
- See every action on your account in your activity log.
